Canada
The gold mask he is holding represents the strong presence of the arts and theater in Canada. Canada became a great country thanks to the invention of the steam locomotive in the early 19th century and to the development of the Canadian Pacific Railway, which linked the vast countryside from the west to the east coast. The first railroad in Canada opened in 1836 and was such a success it kept expanding its lines. The toy black bear in Santa’s pocket represents one of the most familiar wild animals in North America today. To many Canadians, black bears are both a nuisance and an exciting part of their outdoor experience. The skates Santa is bringing to a special child represent the rich history of ice skating and speed skating in Canada.

Greece
The bread that Santa is holding is a wonderful Greek tradition. It is called Vasilopita, famous Greek Holiday Cake. It is made in honor of a beautiful act of charity by St. Basil to the poor and needy of his flock. In order to insure that the needy would have money for life's necessities, and knowing that the needy were also proud people, St. Basil had the ladies of his church make sweet breads with coins baked into them. In this way he could give them money without demeaning them at all. It is therefore traditional to bake a coin into the Vasilopita. The one who receives the coin is considered to be especially blessed for the New Year. The crosses on Santa’s coat are reminiscent of the crosses that adorned St. Basil’s clothing. The Viking ship represents the many ships that have sailed the Greek Seas. Decorating their Christmas Tree with coins is a tradition in many parts of Greece. Retired
